What it means to be Web Architect Certified

The site is the client’s.
The domain and the hosting account are in the client’s name, the client has full administrator access, and they can move the site or work with someone else without needing anything from you.

It is well built.
A clear structure of pages and topics, fast loading, a layout that works on phones, accessible basics such as headings, alt text and readable contrast, and clean, standard WordPress underneath.

It is ready for AI search.
Structured data that describes the business and its pages, content that answers questions clearly, and nothing that stops search engines or AI assistants from reading it.

It is kept current.
Current versions of WordPress, the theme and plugins at handover, with nothing abandoned left installed.
Why certify
Anyone can put a website together in an afternoon now, with a hosted builder or a few prompts to an AI. What a client cannot easily tell is who will build it well and leave them in control of it.
Being Web Architect Certified tells your prospective clients that you have the experience behind you, and that you work differently from most of your competitors: the site you deliver is theirs, it is built properly, and it is ready to be found and cited by search engines and AI assistants.
Certified builders are also listed on The Web Architecture and on NoTiesBuilder, with a link to their own site. People who read our sites and would rather have their website built for them can find you there.
How to get certified
We certify experience. Show us more than ten websites you have built with us, each one meeting the four standards above.
Send us the list of sites at [email protected]. We review them, and if they meet the criteria you get the Web Architect Certified badge for your own site and a listing with a link.
Free, now and later
Certification is free. We will soon publish a course on website management, and certification will stay free once the course is running.
Renewal and withdrawal
Certification is valid for the calendar year in which it is granted and ends on 31 December. To renew it for the next year, show us websites you delivered during the year that meet the four standards. Renewal is free.
We withdraw certification at any time if a site you deliver leaves a client tied to you, for example with the domain or the hosting account in your name instead of theirs. The badge and the listing are removed.
The Web Architecture may close the certification program, or limit it to a small number of web agencies, at any time and at its own discretion.
